Sweden consistently allures with its array of gastronomic delights, extending beyond the mundane. Along the Swedish west coast, ambitious entrepreneurs and food enthusiasts are drawn by the fertile soil, lush forests, and captivating coastline. The region sees a continuous emergence of new and captivating venues, with over 80 establishments sprouting up in Gothenburg alone over recent years. Here lie 20 of the coast’s most tantalizing novelties.

Restaurant FYR

On what has been voted Sweden’s most beautiful beach several times, Tylösand, chef Jacob Holmström opens the doors to Halmstad’s new meeting place, Restaurant Fyr. Jacob, previously renowned for his tenure at the famous Michelin-starred restaurant Gastrologik in Stockholm, introduces Restaurant Fyr as a fresh concept emphasizing fish and shellfish. Traditional hang tenderizing techniques for fish are among the culinary practices employed here. The restaurant debuted on the Easter weekend.

Feldts at Skolberget

In the heart of Oskarström, an old cultural building undergoes a revival. My Feldt – renowned pastry chef, chef, cafe proprietor, writer, artist, entrepreneur, creator, and TV personality – spearheads the transformation of a listed brick structure dating back to 1891 into a dining destination. The anticipated opening of Feldts on Skolberget is slated for the summer, promising a location immersed in nature with scenic valley views. Patrons can anticipate seasonal fare, with the added option to purchase culinary delights and unique gifts crafted by My herself. Plans also include amenities such as a dance floor, concert space, boule courts, bakery, and greenhouse. Located a mere 15 minutes from Halmstad, Feldts on Skolberget offers a multifaceted experience for visitors.

Feskekörka

The significant culinary development in Gothenburg this year revolves around the reopening of the iconic fish hall Feskekörka, which has undergone a four-year renovation. Visitors can now indulge in fresh seafood from multiple counters, savor delectable dishes, and relish drinks at the new restaurants and bars within. Additionally, there will be a stage for entertainment and one of Gothenburg’s largest outdoor dining spaces at Vallgraven. The reopening is scheduled for May 16th.

Ceno at World of Volvo

The esteemed restaurant group Götaplatsgruppen has been appointed to oversee the culinary offerings at World of Volvo in Gothenburg. Starting from the opening on April 14th, patrons can immerse themselves in Ceno Brasserie and “dynamic dining” – a culinary concept blending Nordic and Swedish traditions with global influences. Renowned chef Stefan Karlsson leads the creative charge, promising visitors taste sensations beyond the ordinary from lunchtime till late evening.

Lorensberg’s fish & bar

Lorensbergs Fish & Bar, a hidden gem in Gothenburg, unveiled its doors in February. Offering a menu adorned with timeless classics like fish and shellfish soup, mussels, special á la havet, and prawn sandwiches, the establishment exudes a relaxed ambiance. The dining area boasts modern Scandinavian design, enhancing the overall dining experience.

With a commitment to delivering fresh ingredients at reasonable prices, Lorensbergs Fish & Bar stands by the motto set forth by the restaurant itself. Currently, an evening á la carte menu is available, with plans to expand to lunch service in the spring. Additionally, patrons have the option to procure a takeaway lunch from the adjacent Lorensbergs Fiskaffär, the restaurant’s well-stocked fish shop.

Suggan wine bar

Suggan vinbar, located in the Majorna area of Gothenburg, stands as a unique restaurant and wine bar with a distinctive wine philosophy dubbed “wines without hocus pocus.” Rooted in the concept are wines devoid of additives and yeast manipulation, complemented by dishes crafted from quality seasonal ingredients, boasting pure flavors. The restaurant’s interior design fosters a cozy ambiance akin to being in a personal living space. A disco ball, whimsically shaped like a sow (sugga), glistens from the ceiling, adding a touch of charm to the atmosphere.

Dubbelhakan
In late February, the beloved Rollin Bistros Backyard extended its operations into Gothenburg’s Gamlestadens Fabriker, debuting a cozy wine and pizza bar.

Ego Distillers
Ego Distillers emerges as a fresh addition to Gamlestadens Fabriker, housing both a distillery and cocktail bar. This burgeoning district of Gothenburg is poised to welcome its inaugural distillery, with the bar situated within a refurbished old machine room.

Bar el Guiri
Bar el Guiri, a Spanish eatery in Gothenburg, will feature a 15-meter-long wine and pintxos bar, a traditional restaurant section complete with an open kitchen, and an ice cream bar offering delectable treats like ice cream and churros. Additionally, the second floor will house a lounge area equipped with shuffleboard and boule courts.

Wazo
Wazo bills itself as one of Sweden’s tiniest wine bars, prioritizing artisanal wines free of additives, alongside a menu highlighting cheese and bread. Launched just this March, the establishment is helmed by the same family behind the renowned Café Oizo in Gothenburg..

Posto
This year has seen the emergence of several new Italian eateries in Gothenburg, including Posto. Restaurateur and food connoisseur Phillipe Cohen, formerly of the same concept in Stockholm, spearheads this venture. Situated just a stone’s throw away from the city’s bustling thoroughfare, Avenyn.

Faccia Grassa
Faccia Grassa stands as a ravioli restaurant and wine bar nestled along Kobbarnas väg in Olskroken, Gothenburg. Patrons can indulge in top-tier pasta dishes paired with quality wines. Additionally, the restaurant offers pasta courses, providing guests with the opportunity to learn the art of making ravioli themselves.

2 Ragazzi

This initiative arises as the Michelin-starred restaurant Bhoga undergoes renovations, maintaining its commitment to delivering high-quality dining experiences.

Pastor GBG
At Gamlestadens Fabriker, patrons can now indulge in freshly made artisanal pasta available for takeaway. Spearheading this concept and the accompanying food truck are former Michelin chef Henrik Bernvik and the team from Restaurant BIKT in Gothenburg.

Fredriksons Game, Wine & Boarding House

Nestled by the serene lake Emten is Fredriksons Vilt, Vin & Pensionat. Situated amidst the bountiful pantry of Skaraborg, between Vänern and Vättern in western Sweden, they meticulously select their ingredients. Their offerings include venison, mushrooms, forest berries, fish from Vänern and Vättern, vegetables, herbs, fruits, and berries from the kitchen garden, as well as potatoes, honey, and root vegetables from local food producers. Building upon these high-quality ingredients, they craft both 5-course and 3-course menus. Reservations for tables in the restaurant are required in advance and can also be made for groups of at least four people without accommodation.

At home at Klev

Located in the village of Mårdaklev by the river Ätran in western Sweden, Hemma på Klev is a rural Bed & Breakfast featuring an evening restaurant. Offering tranquility and serenity, guests can relish in good food, comfortable beds, forest walks in the nearby nature reserve, or unwind with a favorite book in the cozy lounge. Their culinary ethos revolves around using locally-sourced, fresh, and sustainable ingredients prepared from scratch. 

The menu often features game from the forest or vegetarian options, complemented by side dishes sourced from trusted local producers.
