Belfast was Titanic’s home, it still is – and now Titanic Belfast and the SS Nomadic are opening again in Belfast to welcome fans of the most famous ship in the world from Thursday, May 27.
The self-guided Titanic Experience is the most authentic way to discover the sights, sounds, smells and stories of the ship – now with a themed one-way tour route. On entering, you are greeted with a panoramic eagle eye view down Belfast Lough and the actual slipways on which both the Titanic and her sister ship the Olympic slipped into the water. An eclectic range of exhibits, models, interactive databases and elaborate computer-generated imagery illustrate the ship’s opulent fit-out.
Exact replicas of the cabins can be found, and there are journeys through the dining areas, the ship’s engine rooms, working interiors and deck promenade, where you can see and hear the oceans and feel the engines rumbling.
There is also a tribute to magnificent ship and the 1,500 men, women and children who lost their lives on Titanic’s tragic maiden voyage. The story is then brought up to the present with the discovery of the wreck and into the future with live links to contemporary undersea exploration.
Moored close by, SS Nomadic, the original tender vessel to the ‘ship of dreams’ and the last remaining White Star Line vessel in the world, is also ready to receive guests.
