The Market Place is in the midst of a significant transformation, with plans underway to unveil a brand-new community lawn and plaza area spanning over half an acre by next summer. This vibrant space will host a variety of pop-up shops, retail experiences, and culinary delights, complete with a seasonal holiday tree for special celebrations.
Years of community feedback and careful planning have informed the design, with the Irvine Company actively engaging residents and shoppers to create inviting gathering spots at The Market Place.
Adjacent to the upcoming lawn and plaza, construction is in progress for a new apartment-home community tailored to the needs of young professionals working at nearby medical and office campuses, expected to open in late summer 2025.
Meanwhile, the beloved Regal Edwards Market Place continues to delight movie enthusiasts with its eight screens showcasing top-rated movies and blockbusters throughout the summer. Parking remains accessible during construction, situated between Regal and Taco Rosa, and adjacent to Texas de Brazil.
The parking and roadway construction progresses through several phases:
- Phase 1: Introducing new parking spaces near Regal and extending Marketplace Drive from the food court to 24 Hour Fitness.
- Phase 2 (August 2024): Adding more parking near Taco Rosa, enhancing roads behind the food court on Marketplace Drive, and demolishing buildings within the food court area.
- Phase 3 (September 2024): Further improving roads behind California Fish Grill and Islands.
- Completion (Summer 2025): Constructing new buildings within the food court, reopening restaurants, and unveiling the new lawn area.
During the construction period, some restaurants undergo relocations or closures:
- Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream temporarily relocates to the food court near Target.
- The Market Place partners with Corner Bakery to secure a new location, advising patrons to visit its nearby branch at Harvard Place Shopping Center.
- Blk Dot Coffee temporarily closes, with patrons directed to its neighboring store at Irvine Spectrum Center.
- Pieology’s lease expires, leading to the permanent closure of its Market Place store; patrons are encouraged to visit its nearby location at Irvine Spectrum Center.
- Veggie Grill’s lease also expires, resulting in the permanent closure of its Market Place branch.
