The world can explore new business opportunities in Syria at Expo 2020 Dubai, while Syrians can connect with the world, as the Middle Eastern nation reemerges from the effects of a long war – that is the message from His Excellency Dr Ghassan Abbas, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UAE and Commissioner General of the Syrian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
HE Dr Ghassan Abbas explained that there are many goals for his country’s participation, including social and cultural, and making contact with new international partners – giving a unique opportunity for all Syrians, including businessmen, to learn about the opportunities offered at Expo 2020, with 192 countries participating.
Speaking about the Syria Pavilion, which is showcasing the nation’s rich history, HE Dr Ghassan Abbas said: “We want the world to know the Syrian history and civilisation, especially since in the past there was only one picture of the scenes of destruction; and the picture we would like to present is a picture of hope for all Syrians. We are confident that our rich heritage and nature will nourish our bright future.”
On the role of the UAE in bringing the world together to work in the interest of humanity, HE Dr Ghassan Abbas said: “We cannot [help] but respect and appreciate … the great effort it has made to bring countries together in this global forum … and it has succeeded in building a bridge of communication between peoples not only in the cultural field, but also in trade, and made excellent use of their geographical location to be the centre of the connection between the continents, reinforced by ports.”
The Syria Pavilion opens a window to a rich civilization that contributed to laying the foundations that connect our contemporary world – Syria was home to a series of firsts: the first crop, the first alphabet, the first musical note and the first poem.
