In a recent collaboration between Fendi and Stefano Pilati for the Winter 2023-2024 collection, the designer, hailing from Milan, expressed his admiration for the freedom embodied in the Roman style. Stefano Pilati, known for his mastery in cut and construction for both men and women, embraced the opportunity provided by Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini FENDI to merge the worlds of Milanese bourgeois chic and Roman freedom.
The collection, captured through the lenses of Collier Schorr and styled by Ellie Grace Cumming, takes inspiration from the 1920s ‘flapper’ and brings it into the contemporary context. The boyish girl ‘flapper,’ once a symbol of female freedom, now represents liberation for both genders. Pilati’s approach reflects current cultural shifts, blending tradition with subversion, evident in the duality of men’s garments with feminine elements and vice versa.
This collaboration is part of the ‘Friends of Fendi’ series initiated by Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi, transcending fashion industry boundaries to celebrate friendship. The melding of Milan and Roma in the collection serves as a testament to the collaboration’s innovative and contemporary fashion direction. The photography and film direction by Collier Schorr, along with the contributions of other talented individuals in styling, hair, makeup, set design, and casting, complete the artistic synergy of this unique project.
