Rolex introduces palm dial motif for its 2021 Datejust 36 watches

Launched in 1945, Oyster Perpetual Datejust was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window at 3 o’clock on the dial. The style is also one of the most recognized from Rolex. For year 2021, Rolex is introducing four new versions of this timepiece, featuring new ‘palm’ and ‘fluted’ dial motifs.  The palm motif reminiscent tropical forests while the fluted showcases the pattern found on Rolex bezels.

The palm motif can be seen on three of the new Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 watches. On the first, in Oystersteel and equipped with an Oyster bracelet, the pattern is feature on the olive green dial. The yellow Rolesor version, which is a combination of Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold, present on a golden, palm motif on the dial. The new Everose Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and 18 ct Everose gold) features silver, palm motif dial and Jubilee bracelet.

For the fourth style, the flute motif can be seen on the golden dial of the yellow Rolesor version with Jubilee bracelet.  The Oyster and Jubilee bracelets on the Datejust 36 are equipped with a folding Oysterclasp and include the Easylink comfort extension link.

On the two new yellow Rolesor versions of the Datejust 36, the bezel, winding crown and centre links of the bracelet are in 18 ct yellow gold, while the case and outer links of the bracelet are in Oystersteel. The Everose Rolesor version follows the same principle, using 18 ct Everose gold rather than 18 ct yellow gold.

Named after the one-eye giant of Greek mythology, the Cyclops lens is used to magnify the date display for easy reading.  This feature is also one of the most recognizable on Rolex timepiece.

The new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 are equipped with calibre 3235.  Made of nickel-phosphorus and insensitive to magnetic interference, the calibre 3235 is a new-generation movement developed and manufactured by Rolex.  It incorporates the new Chronergy escapement.
