Ushering in the New Year with the beauty and brilliance of a long-standing musical tradition, the annual Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert sponsored by Rolex will take place on 1 January 2022 at 11.15 a.m. at the Musikverein’s Golden Hall in the Austrian capital.

In 2022, the 82nd edition of the concert will be led by Maestro Daniel Barenboim.  This will be the third time that he takes the podium of the popular concert and follows on from the recent participation of celebrated conductors Riccardo Muti (2021 and 2018), Andris Nelsons (2020), Christian Thielemann (2019), Gustavo Dudamel (2017) and Mariss Jansons (2016).

The Vienna Philharmonic is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s most revered orchestras, upholding the greatest traditions in classical music. Founded in 1842 and with more than 175 years of artistic contribution, it is known for its individuality and lustrous sound as well as for its exacting standards, maintaining artistic integrity and communicating music’s humanitarian message around the world. Today, this is carried out by way of two notable events: the New Year’s Concert and the open-air Summer Night Concert, where, every May or June, around 100,000 people gather in the Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn in Vienna, known as the capital city of music.

Rolex’s support of the arts and culture is part of the legacy and values of the brand’s founder, Hans Wilsdorf.   This commitment to the arts dates back to 1970 when New Zealand soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa became the first Rolex arts Testimonee and over the years has developed to embrace time-honoured partnerships with many of the world’s leading artists and prestigious institutions, including musicians, festivals and orchestras.

The foremost cultural institutions from around the world supported by Rolex include the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, London’s Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera (The Met) in New York, the Opéra national de Paris, the Teatro Colón (Colón Theatre) in Buenos Aires, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Salzburg and Whitsun Festivals.
