Procreate has introduced several new features tailored for the Apple Pencil Pro, enhancing their popular illustration app, Procreate, and their newly released animation app, Procreate Dreams. Artist and animator Nikolai Lockertsen demonstrated these innovations on the new thin and lightweight iPad Pro, which is powered by the advanced M4 chip, promising a more responsive experience for artists worldwide.
The painting experience in Procreate is now more tactile, thanks to advanced features such as squeeze, barrel roll, and haptic feedback, making the creation of art more intuitive. Artists can achieve impressive new effects by optimizing their brushes with the barrel roll feature, allowing for automatic changes in size, color, and other parameters as the pencil is twisted. The squeeze function enables shortcuts and layer selection without needing to touch the screen.
The barrel roll feature elevates the Performing function in Procreate Dreams, enabling animators to move and rotate objects simultaneously. Procreate Dreams also introduces a new Lens Blur for realistic bokeh and camera focus animation, made possible by the M4 chip’s up to 50% performance improvement.
In Procreate, the support for barrel roll enhances brushes in Brush Studio, offering control over shape rotation, stroke jitter, color dynamics, grain rotation, size, and opacity. The squeeze feature can be assigned to custom actions, including color and layer selection and using QuickMenu. Haptic feedback adds a more tactile experience when making selections and transforming content.
Procreate Dreams benefits from the new Lens Blur filter on the M4 iPad Pro, enabling realistic bokeh and camera focus animations. The barrel roll feature allows simultaneous movement and rotation of content during animations. Procreate brushes optimized for barrel roll are supported, and haptic feedback enhances the editing experience on the Timeline. Additionally, the squeeze function can be used to play or pause real-time playback. The M4 iPad Pro offers 30% faster export times and a 50% improvement in filter performance compared to the 12.9” M2 iPad Pro.
