Porsche partnered with the non-profit organization Liter of Light to bring sustainable, solar-powered lighting to rural communities in India during Diwali. A total of 1,963 hand-crafted solar lamps were created by women in Mumbai and distributed to homes without reliable electricity in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Before distribution, the lamps were showcased in a record-breaking light installation at Mumbai’s iconic Gateway of India.
The event, celebrating Diwali—the Festival of Lights—highlighted the impact of renewable energy and community empowerment. The lamps, arranged in the shape of the Porsche crest, set a Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar-powered lamps. Members of the public joined volunteers to assemble the installation, which symbolized the triumph of light over darkness and innovation over traditional, hazardous lighting methods like kerosene.
Each lamp was designed in a color inspired by the Provence shade of Porsche’s all-electric Macan and was crafted using ceramic and a simple solar-powered setup. After the event, the lamps were distributed with support from local organizations such as the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach.
“Porsche India is proud to support Liter of Light in creating meaningful impact by providing solar-powered lighting to underserved communities during Diwali,” shared Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director of Porsche India.
Liter of Light focuses on empowering women by involving them in the production of renewable lighting solutions. This initiative not only provided light to homes in need but also created employment opportunities in the manufacturing process, showcasing the importance of sustainable development and community-driven projects.
