Netflix has announced the remaining cast members who will be joining the second season of the global hit series Squid Game, generating even more excitement following the earlier reveal of the first cast members at Tudum earlier this month. This week, the cast members and showrunners gathered for their first table read, marking the beginning of production for Squid Game Season 2, scheduled to start later this year. The ensemble cast encompasses a wide range of talent and experiences, featuring rising stars as well as seasoned actors. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won an Emmy for the first season, will return to direct and executive produce the entire second season.
The newly added cast members include Park Gyu-young, known for her role in Netflix series Sweet Home Seasons 1 and 2, as well as her upcoming appearance in the Netflix series Celebrity. Jo Yu-ri, a singer and actress and former member of the South Korean-Japanese girl group Iz*One, will also join the cast. Kang Ae-sim, a highly respected theater and musical actress in Korea, has left a lasting impression on the audience with her performances in TV series Be Melodramatic and the Netflix series Move to Heaven. Lee David, recognized for his supporting roles in director Hwang’s film The Fortress, formed a connection with Lee Jung-jae through the film Svaha: The Sixth Finger. Lee Jin-uk, who starred in Netflix series Sweet Home Seasons 1 and 2, has also appeared in various Korean dramas and films, including one of director Hwang’s notable works, Miss Granny. Choi Seung-hyun, a singer and actor, has been featured in diverse Korean films and TV series such as Tazza: The Hidden Card and Commitment. Roh Jae-won, who made his acting debut in 2021, is rapidly gaining recognition through films like Missing Yoon and Ditto. Won Ji-an, who made an impressive debut in the first season of the Netflix series D.P., will also join the second season’s cast.
The director of Squid Game Season 2, as well as one of the executive producers, is Hwang Dong-hyuk, who also serves as the writer. Kim Ji-yeon joins him as an executive producer. The production company behind the series is Firstman Studio.
