Hublot, the Swiss luxury watchmaker, has unveiled a new collection of eight exclusive variations of the Square Big Bang Unico at the Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 event. The Square Bang Unico, the first square watch designed by Hublot, was introduced last year and is now entering a new era, that of the diamond.
The eight new variations of the Square Bang Unico are available in white gold, titanium, and King Gold, an 18-carat gold alloy with copper and platinum to give it a redder hue than 5N gold. Each model is available in four different setting levels for a total of eight different references.
The first level features a bezel set with 44 white diamonds totaling 1.9 carats, while the second level has a more jeweled version with the case also paved with 138 white diamonds totaling 3.3 carats. The third level is called “Jewelry,” and the bezel is draped in 50 baguette diamonds, and the case is set with 94 diamonds, bringing the total number of diamonds to 144 with well over 4 carats. The fourth level is a piece of “high jewelry” that signals a very clear change of dimension from the previous versions, with 285 diamonds adorning the case and both the bezel and dial entirely set in diamonds, achieving a total of almost 18 carats.
Each piece has an invisible setting, a jewelry technique where the claws holding the stones appear to disappear, creating the feeling that they are simply and delicately placed flush with the gold or titanium. All the diamonds have been selected for their large size to emphasize the case’s profile.
The Square Bang Unico retains the Big Bang’s hallmark features visible here and there: six screws on the bezel, composite side pieces and bezel, the interchangeable rubber strap, while Big Bang’s time markers and hands hover over the watchmaker’s own Unico bicompax chronograph. The titanium version has a monochrome feel, while the King Gold version has a richer color palette with a gold case that contrasts sharply with the black rubber strap.
According to Hublot, each of these versions confirms the unique and different character of the Square Bang Unico. The square introduces a new geometric shape, while collectors will find themselves on familiar ground with the Big Bang’s hallmark features visible here and there. The new collection is a testament to Hublot’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking and creating exclusive and luxurious timepieces.
