Golden View restaurant is scheduled to reopen in January 2022 with a new 8,000 bottle cellar, after 14 months hiatus. The restaurant’s reopening is in time to celebrate the its 20th anniversary.
Renovated by architect Marta Sansoni the naturally temperature-controlled space is perfect for storage of the vast $1 million collection that includes extensive vintages of mostly Italian wines, with some Bordeaux for balance.
Owner Tommaso Grasso teamed up with architect Nicola Maggiaioli from Studio Miarca to reimagine the 6,000 sq ft Golden View for the next 20 years, opening up the space to give every diner magical vistas of the river and to put the kitchen on full display for guests to see the artisan craftsmanship that goes into preparing an authentic Italian meal.
The new 8,000 bottle wine cellar will be the second largest winery in Florence, in the adjacent former 15th century home belonging to the Florentine family of Capponi. Carefully managed by Golden View’s sommelier and “wine hunter” Paolo Miano, vertical selections of the great Super Tuscans like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Solaia, Tignanello, along with those of “Brunelli” as Biondi Santi, Soldera, Poggio di Sotto abound underlining the love for tradition and territory. The wine cellar is available for private tastings, as well as intimate private dinners for up to 12 people.
In addition, the dining area of the restaurant has been transformed to enhance the “golden” light coming from the banks of the Arno, as well as to shine a bright one on the culinary team led by chef Paolo Secci. The Sardinian-born chef takes pride in combining his love for seafood with the local Tuscan bounty of meat and vegetables. Here at the restaurant, fresh pasta are made with re-milled Senatore Cappelli durum wheat semolina and organic eggs from livornese hens while all the dry pasta types are produced by the Pastificio Agricolo Mancini. Located in the heart of the Marche region, it uses exclusively native wheat, wisely selected, and cultivated in the fields surrounding the pasta factory.
On the menu, guests will find fresh seafood such as Mazara shrimp, French and Italian oysters, Calvisius caviar, and daily catch. For starters, guest are encouraged to try Gran Plateau Royal (A fine selection of oysters (6 pcs), 4 red shrimps, 4 violet shrimps, 4 scampi, 4 prawns and a daily selection of raw fish fillets) or Tradition Calvisius caviar with butter from Normandy and brioche bread croutons.
