Qatar has eight spectacular FIFA World Cup 2022™ stadiums spread across the country – but none are more than an hour away from one another.
Culture is a significant theme across every stadium. Each new venue has been designed in tribute to Qatar’s rich traditions, heritage and location – offering fans a unique world of discovery.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium – Where desert stories unfold
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, a 40,000-seat stadium with a stunning exterior telling the story of Qatar, sits at the gateway to the desert. The stadium’s design is inspired by aspects of the local culture and traditions. This can be seen in the intricate façade, which mirrors the sweeping undulations of the nearby sand dunes, while beautiful geometric patterns depict different characteristics of the country.
Al Bayt Stadium – Enjoy the warmest of Arab welcomes
Visiting fans will receive an authentic introduction to the heart of Qatari and regional culture as soon as they step foot into Al Bayt Stadium. This incredible 60,000-seat venue is designed like traditional bayt al sha’ar tents, which have been used by nomadic peoples in the region for centuries.
Al Janoub Stadium – See football sail into a new era
AI Janoub Stadium’s design brings the city of AI Wakrah’s fishing and pearl diving history to life. Its graceful lines and flowing curves were inspired by traditional dhow boats weaving through the currents of the Gulf. This futuristic 40,000-seat arena bridges the old and new – a strong visual representation of Qatar’s drive to reach beyond its shores.
Al Thumama Stadium – A coming of age for the beautiful game
The beautiful 40,000-seat Al Thumama Stadium is inspired by the gahfiya, a cap worn to hold men’s traditional headdresses in place, as well as on its own by boys. The arena’s emotive design tugs at the heartstrings of Qataris and people across the region. More importantly, its cultural role marks every young boy’s path into adulthood.
Education City Stadium – Bringing football and knowledge together
Education City Stadium is a striking 40,000-seat stadium that changes color as the sun moves across the sky. It is surrounded by leading universities, green spaces and high-tech facilities to empower students and academics in the study, sports and leisure. While it has been built to showcase FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ matches, it equally serves the needs of the community and campus.
Khalifa International Stadium – A sporting legend re-energized
Khalifa International Stadium is an icon of Qatar’s sporting history, combining its illustrious past with its aspirations for a bright new future. Since 1976, the 40,000-seat venue has played host to the Amir Cup, Arabian Gulf Cup, FIFA Club World Cup™ and the IAAF World Athletics Championships. Now the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ puts the stadium once again into the spotlight.
Lusail Stadium – Alive with culture, an icon for the future
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Final venue – Lusail Stadium – is a design masterpiece, inspired by the interplay of light and shadow characteristic of fanarlanterns. This 80,000-seat stadium’s shape and façade mirror the intricate decorative motifs on bowls, vessels and other handcrafted art pieces found across the Arab world during the rise of civilization in the region.
Stadium 974 – A big win for innovation and sustainability
Stadium 974 is the magic number – it’s the international dialing code for Qatar and the exact number of shipping containers used in its construction. The 40,000-seat stadium is inspired by Qatar’s legacy of seafaring and trade. And what’s amazing is that it’s the first ever fully demountable FIFA World Cup™ football stadium.
