The idea behind “The Edible Country” concept, which was launched in 2019 in Sweden, a concept of turning Sweden’s great outdoors into a gourmet restaurant. Preparing food out in the open – using raw ingredients that come from local producers – is a positive experience for mind and body alike. Now, Dalarna will welcome its second such outdoor restaurant when Grövelsjön opens for bookings on June 15.

The dining experience is focused on flavors from Sami cuisine and what nature provides, depending on the season. Visitors can also book a table to prepare their food and hear more about life as a reindeer herder and about Sami culture.  This company combines reindeer herding with growing their own crops, running a farm shop and offering a whole range of different experiences involving Sami culture and their tame reindeer.

The table is located close to the Norwegian border and is around a 10-minute walk through the forest or along a gravel path. This means that it is also accessible to people with disabilities. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, it’s also possible to prepare your food while sitting in a traditional Sami goahti.

There are many options and menus to choose from at the table. A two-course lunch basket is ideal for people who want to make their food themselves. Raw ingredients and recipes are inspired by Sami cuisine and the basket comes with everything you need to prepare your meal.

“Taste of Sapmi” is an experience with a four-course dinner. Over an entire evening, you will be served Sami dishes made over an open fire in the large goahti to give you an experience for all the senses.

This experience will be available from June 15 to September 30, 2021.
