In a collaboration that melds automotive passion with sleep science, high-end athletic streetwear designer Daniel Patrick has partnered with Nissan to introduce a limited line of performance-oriented sleepwear. The Fast Asleep capsule collection, now available for order, draws inspiration from NISMO, Nissan’s in-house motorsports and performance division.
During the design phase, Patrick immersed himself behind the wheel of the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO, captivated by its blend of track-ready precision and distinctive aesthetics. Patrick stated, “The Z NISMO is the purest expression of design and performance, and these characteristics are always found in my designs.”
The Fast Asleep collection comprises a pajama set and accompanying dress robe, featuring a NISMO-inspired color scheme, red accents reminiscent of the Z NISMO LED taillights, and a red waist drawstring inspired by the signature NISMO red stripe on the Z NISMO’s lower edge. Strategically placed venting, breathable materials for thermal regulation, and embroidered NISMO logos are incorporated into the designs.
The project’s inspiration extends beyond aesthetics, influenced by the research of sleep expert Dr. Matthew Walker, known for emphasizing the crucial role of quality rest in enhancing driver performance. Walker’s unique perspective, coupled with a history of involvement in elite motorsports competitions, adds depth to the collaboration.
“To be a better driver, it’s not just about performance and reacting quickly; it’s also about consistency – and managing concentration,” explained Walker. “I don’t know anything other than sleep that has a greater statistical contribution to improving that ability.”
The Fast Asleep collection aligns with Walker’s recommendations for enhancing sleep quality, incorporating strategically placed venting, polar fleece material, side vents, and wide-legged pants to facilitate temperature regulation and airflow.
