Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2021 collections by Riccardo Tisci explore the narrative of modern femininity and masculinity, re-writing the narrative with a sense of boldness and opportunity. Paying homage to the indomitable force of Mother Nature and the widespread British craft and outdoor movements of the early 20th Century, the collections nod to those who daringly ventured into nature, breaking with convention in their journey towards building a better future.

Playing on the concept of duality, the campaign contrasts raw, classical studio stills, captured by photographers Mert and Marcus. The collections themselves transform through these opposing lenses, encouraging different viewpoints and freedom of expression.

Autumn/Winter 2021 womenswear collection

Named ‘Femininity’, Riccardo Tisci’s Autumn/Winter 2021 womenswear collection for Burberry sheds archetypes and readdresses preconceptions with unflinching pride and conviction. Re-inventing tradition, British tailoring classics are renewed with fresh purpose and confidence – a modern armour – twisting classicism and encouraging freedom of expression. The collection returns to the animal kingdom – a house code – as trompe l’oeil prints and tactile faux furs play on the natural and the fashioned, with unexpected adornment on hoods and exaggerated pelt fringing. Fluttering cape-sleeve dresses in color block and animal print, and fluid unlined outerwear evoke a sense of freedom, as if moving in the wind, whilst bold and bright flag intarsias appear on silk satin and tulle skirts, alongside reconstructed silhouettes with geometric panels and prints.

The Olympia bag collection is evolved with fresh iterations, including an Olympia scarf tote and clutch. The Flagbag–a new soft tote with metallic embroidered fringing – is inspired by the collection’s sense of fluidity, presented in paillette-adorned silk, and smooth lambskin annotated with founder Thomas Burberry’s initials.

Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection

Named ‘Escapes’, Riccardo Tisci’s Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection for Burberry gently challenges and subtly reinvents traditions, inviting freedom of expression.

The Burberry Autumn/Winter 2021 menswear collection by Riccardo Tisci honors a deep connection to the outdoors, to creativity, to dreams. The presentation explores a new environment within Burberry’s flagship Regent Street store in London – the space is reconfigured as a wandering terrain.

The menswear collection gently challenges and subtly reinvents traditions, inviting freedom of expression. The collection itself is dynamic and young, vibrant and alive. Outerwear is key. Clothes are engineered to reflect motion and activity – with pleats, panels and fringes – as if moving in the wind. Layered pieces morph unexpectedly on the body. Tailoring has a sense of twisted classicism, whilst Burberry’s quintessential house codes – the trench coat and Burberry beige – are evolved.

The Burberry animal kingdom, a signature house code, is once again revisited through prints and shapes – a nod to the wilderness and the creatures within. Deer motifs inspire the silhouettes of knitted beanies, whilst boots and sneakers on moulded soles are also sculpted to resemble hooves. The collection’s distinct palette is tonal and rich, including Burberry beige, bark brown, oxblood burgundy, city grays and shirting shades of pale blue and pink. Details and decoration evoke the notion of ceremony through badges and adornments – symbolizing community and friendship, codes of belonging.
