Apple recently introduced its first scripted film, Submerged, shot entirely in Apple Immersive Video, along with a lineup of new immersive content for the Apple Vision Pro. These releases, including films, series, and concerts, are set to premiere later this year and into early next year.
Submerged, written and directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Edward Berger, is now available and marks a significant step in Apple’s use of immersive video technology. The thriller, set aboard a WWII-era submarine, places viewers in the heart of an intense battle, offering an immersive experience exclusive to Apple Vision Pro users. The short film was shot on location in Prague, Brussels, and Malta, using a massive 23-ton submarine set designed to recreate a WWII vessel. The production incorporated intricate special effects and practical camera setups to fully immerse the audience in the action.
In addition to Submerged, Apple has plans to release other immersive experiences. Next month, Apple and The Weeknd will launch a music experience tied to his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The series Concert for One, featuring intimate performances by major artists, will debut later this year, starting with British singer-songwriter RAYE. Additionally, new episodes of Adventure, a series following athletes in extreme challenges, will be available this year.
Apple Vision Pro users can also explore a behind-the-scenes film detailing the making of Submerged, showcasing how the cast and crew created this immersive, action-packed drama.
