In Spring 2023, the Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi will open as part of Minor Hotels’ European expansion. The hotel is located in a 13th-century monastery and former Cappuccini Friars Convent, and has been restored and renovated extensively. The hotel features 52 guest rooms and suites, a redesigned spa, refreshed dining concepts, and a swimming pool area with custom-made furniture, all perched on a clifftop with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Coast.
Minor Hotels has taken great care to preserve the original appearance of the façade of the 800-year-old building while injecting warmth and volume into the interiors. The hotel’s guest rooms and suites will preserve existing tiled flooring, vaulted ceilings, and lime-washed walls, while Anantara’s signature hospitality experience will be created through the addition of rich textiles, sculptural furniture, locally-sourced contemporary art, and the latest in high-tech comforts.
The renovated Bar and Lounge area on the reception level will feature contemporary lighting, statement rugs made from natural fibers, and comfortable low-slung furniture in cream hues. The main restaurant will serve traditional Mediterranean flavors and wood-fired pizza and will feature dramatic latticed metal dividers and monastic boiserie panels for a visual separation from the lounge area.
The new travertine-clad Anantara Spa will offer healing therapies and beauty treatments in a décor infused with monastic spirituality. The resort’s leisure facilities will also include a sea-facing spa relaxation area and a fully equipped gym with coastal views.
Minor Hotels’ CEO Dillip Rajakarier said, “We are taking great care to restore the 800-year-old building to strict historic-preservation guidelines while adding a contemporary look and feel to the rooms and public areas, as well as making sure that every guest experience at Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi is exceptional.” The hotel was formerly operating as NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi and is the second Anantara property in Italy and the brand’s eighth in Europe.
The Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi, which was formerly known as NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi, is set to become the second Anantara property in Italy. The brand’s expansion in Italy began with the recent addition of Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel. The upcoming opening of Anantara Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi will mark the eighth Anantara property in Europe.
