Castro NYC, renowned for visionary artistry in the realm of fine jewelry, stands on the cusp of an exciting new chapter under the guidance of Sir King Castro, offspring of the legendary jewelry designer Terry Castro. This relaunch promises to blend Terry’s unparalleled creative heritage with Sir King Castro’s innovative perspective, resulting in a collection of breathtaking pieces that push the boundaries of wearable art.
The journey of Terry Castro, the jewelry designer, was characterized by an unwavering passion for crafting pieces that transcended conventional artistry. His creations, distinguished by their generous use of opulent gemstones and intricate handcrafted details, wove unique stories that captured the hearts and minds of admirers. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of global cultures and personal experiences, Castro’s designs exuded a sense of wonder, leaving a lasting impression.
Castro recognized that jewelry was more than just an accessory; it embodied emotions, testified to the power of craftsmanship, and celebrated life’s cherished moments. This insight led him to immerse himself in gemology, metalworking, and design, allowing his talent to flourish and earning him acclaim within the industry.
Terry’s unwavering commitment to excellence and his passion for pushing the boundaries of design drew a devoted clientele, including influential figures and discerning connoisseurs of fine art. Each creation bearing the Castro name became a coveted treasure, sought after by those who longed to adorn themselves with artistic jewels.
Sir King Castro, now entrusted with the legacy of Castro NYC, embarked on a mission to share their father’s story and carry forward the iconic brand. Born and raised in the world of jewelry, Sir King represented Castro at the prestigious Sotheby’s Black and Brilliant event in London in 2021, marking the beginning of their journey to preserve and celebrate their father’s artistic vision.
After attending the Toledo School for the Arts in Ohio and then pursuing a BFA in theatre at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Sir King’s artistic journey underwent a transformation. In 2016, Castro relocated to Istanbul, Turkey, where his work began to ascend to new heights. Sir King soon followed, at their father’s request, to join Castro in Istanbul as an apprentice. In 2019, Sir King made the decision to drop out of college and move to Istanbul to learn directly from their father. There, they diligently observed Castro and the Old-World jewelry masters, absorbing the closely guarded secrets that gave Castro’s jewels their distinctive allure.
Sadly, Castro passed away unexpectedly in 2022, leaving behind a flourishing brand. Sir King, driven by a passion to share their father’s story and continue his artistic legacy, relocated to New York City eight months later. “There are many sketches and ideas that Castro created, yet to be brought to life,” says Sir King Castro. For clients, Castro NYC is now opening its archives to produce Terry’s one-of-a-kind designs, offering a unique opportunity to own a Castro NYC heirloom.
As part of the brand’s relaunch, Castro NYC has embarked on an exciting partnership with Carpenters Workshop Gallery, a world-renowned gallery with locations in London, Paris, New York, and LA. Castro NYC joins the gallery alongside avant-garde designers like Michèle Lamy and Jacqueline Rabun. The collaboration will culminate in a retrospective featuring Castro NYC’s iconic pieces, set to debut in 2024 at their London gallery, Ladbroke Hall. During New York Fashion Week, Castro NYC showcased the gallery’s Manhattan space as the elegant backdrop for its brand relaunch imagery.
As the world eagerly anticipates the renaissance of Castro NYC, the brand’s dedication to timeless artistry and innovation remains unwavering. With Sir King Castro at the helm, the legacy continues to evolve, ensuring that each creation is not just a piece of jewelry but a masterpiece that captures the essence of Terry Castro’s extraordinary vision.
