As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, The Peninsula Bangkok is offering something truly special this year: a collaboration with local artist Pavisa Meesrenon, also known as Pabaja. Together, they’ve created exclusive, limited-edition mooncake boxes designed to bring a touch of artistry and elegance to the festival celebration.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a cherished time for gathering with loved ones and exchanging mooncakes, a tradition deeply rooted in Chinese culture. To make this year even more memorable, The Peninsula Bangkok has partnered with Pabaja and the skilled artisans at Ausara Surface to craft the ‘Moonlit Majesty’ mooncake boxes. These limited-edition boxes, inspired by the Year of the Dragon, are not only gifts but also art pieces that capture the essence of the season.
With only 150 boxes available for pre-order at THB 6,888 net per box, they offer more than just luxury—profits will go toward funding a scholarship for an art student, supporting the future of creative talent.
The Creation of ‘Moonlit Majesty’
The ‘Moonlit Majesty’ mooncake boxes are the result of a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design. Pabaja’s artistic vision centers on the dragon, a powerful symbol of strength, and chrysanthemums, which represent prosperity in many Asian cultures. Together with Ausara Surface, The Peninsula Bangkok has created a box that brings together the best of both worlds: ancient techniques with a fresh, contemporary twist.
Inspired by traditional woodcutting and Chinese lacquer work, each box features delicate laser-cut designs of dragons and chrysanthemums. These intricate patterns are then filled with shimmering metallic powder, creating a moonlit glow that enhances the detail of each piece. The result is a design that’s both timeless and luxurious, reflecting the painstaking craftsmanship involved in every box.
Each limited-edition box is more than a container; it’s a collector’s item. With a unique edition number and the artist’s handwritten signature, the ‘Moonlit Majesty’ box offers a rare blend of cultural significance, artistic beauty, and exclusivity.
The Peninsula Bangkok presents its exquisite collection of mooncakes, each filled with egg custard and an assortment of rich flavors. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, every mooncake goes through a series of precise steps before being baked to a perfect golden-brown. From selecting the finest ingredients, such as milk, butter, cream, flour, and eggs, to the final bake, the process is carried out by expert chefs, ensuring each mooncake reflects their skill and precision.
The signature Egg Custard Mooncake, featuring the auspicious ‘Dragon Fish’ pattern, has been exclusively designed for Mei Jiang Restaurant. Packaged in a striking octagonal red box, adorned with a lotus flower motif and made from eco-friendly, biodegradable materials, this special edition contains eight pieces of the classic egg custard mooncake or an assortment of flavors.
Available in limited quantities, these mooncakes can be purchased now and picked up between 20 July and 17 September 2024. The beautifully packaged box makes it an ideal gift for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.
