Kia America unveiled the all-electric EV3 and EV4 concept models at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, showcasing cutting-edge electric platform technology and styling principles rooted in the Opposites United design philosophy. Emphasizing a commitment to a leading color, material, and finish (CMF) strategy, the Concept EV3 and Concept EV4 present distinct vehicle typologies while sharing a common thread. These models, consistent with other Kia design studies, provide glimpses into potential future products.
Earlier this year, during the launch of the EV9 flagship electric SUV in March, Kia introduced 10 essential items intended for use in new Kia models, including the Concept EV3 and Concept EV4. These materials incorporate bioplastic derived from biomass sources and Bio Polyurethane, aiming to replace animal-based leather.
The Concept EV3 embodies Kia’s vision for an electric, compact crossover, aligning with the technology, practicality, and design of the flagship SUV, the EV9. Its exterior design features a unique silhouette with a forward-pushed windshield, a sloping roofline, and a disconnected C pillar, providing a floating roof effect. The squared wheel arches, cut with asymmetrical angles, contribute to an unexpected logic and a robust exterior architecture.
Inside the Concept EV3, a blend of practicality and transformative cabin design is evident. The interior creates an expansive visual sense, promoting emotional well-being with soft mood lighting and an ultra-clean dashboard. The advanced ergonomic seat design utilizes natural fiber structures for a lightweight, slimmer seat design, complemented by soothing natural tones and 3D Knit technology in the seat covers. The console table incorporates bio-plastic materials, showcasing a forward-thinking solution.
The Concept EV4, representing the purity of the “Power to Progress” pillar, emphasizes potent and impactful lines in its four-door format, symbolizing an entirely new type of EV sedan. Its exterior incorporates attributes reminiscent of sports and racing cars, featuring a low nose, a long-tail silhouette, and a technical roof spoiler. The cocoon-like interior of the Concept EV4 boasts a sleek and spacious horizontal layout, integrating innovative HVAC user interface design and handwoven fabric stripes for a 3D effect. Materiality is underscored through the use of natural dyes and recycled cotton.
