Amazon One Expands Across the U.S., 200+ Whole Foods Market Locations Now Supported

Amazon One is currently available at over 200 Whole Foods Market locations across the United States, including various states such as Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The company plans to expand the availability of Amazon One to more Whole Foods Market stores in other states and locations in the U.S. in the coming months. By the end of the year, Amazon One is expected to be accessible at all 500+ Whole Foods Market locations in the country, allowing customers to make payments and access Prime membership benefits with just their palm, eliminating the need for a wallet or phone.

The technology behind Amazon One uses various palm characteristics to identify each individual user. When customers place their palm over the Amazon One device, the system evaluates multiple aspects of their palm, including surface-area details like lines and ridges, as well as subcutaneous features such as vein patterns. By analyzing these distinct attributes, Amazon One creates a unique palm signature for each user, ensuring accurate identification.

In addition to its presence at Amazon Fresh stores and Whole Foods Market locations, third-party businesses are increasingly adopting Amazon One as an identification and payment option for their customers, finding innovative ways to use the technology. For example, Panera Bread has integrated Amazon One’s loyalty linking capability at select restaurants, allowing guests to easily access their MyPanera loyalty account information by hovering their palm over the Amazon One device, providing a personalized experience.

At Coors Field, the home of the Colorado Rockies MLB team, Aramark Sports + Entertainment utilizes Amazon One’s “age verification” capability, simplifying the process of purchasing alcoholic beverages for adult customers aged 21 and over, who can now scan their palm at an Amazon One device without needing their government-issued IDs.

In busy airport environments, travel retailers like Hudson, CREWS, and OHM have deployed Amazon One at their stores in various airports, such as Atlanta, Charleston, Dallas, Dulles, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Newark, Nashville, Seattle, and more. Similarly, sports venues have embraced Amazon One to enhance the fan experience in partnership with businesses like AXS, Compass, Delaware North, Levy, Penn Entertainment, Sodexo, and others. Several sports stadiums and entertainment venues, including Bridgestone Arena, Climate Pledge Arena, Globe Life Field, Lumen Field, T-Mobile Center, T-Mobile Park, NASCAR Raceway, Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown in Detroit, already offer Amazon One for their customers’ convenience. Moreover, various grocery and convenience stores also support Amazon One for payment and identification purposes.

To enroll in Amazon One, first-time users can pre-register online using their credit or debit card, Amazon account, and mobile number, which takes about a minute. The enrollment process can then be completed in seconds by scanning their palm over an Amazon One device during their next visit to a participating Whole Foods Market store or any other location where Amazon One is available. After enrollment, Amazon Prime members will automatically receive savings and other benefits for their purchases at Whole Foods Market stores. Alternatively, customers can also enroll for Amazon One in-store using their credit card and phone number at an Amazon One device.

Businesses benefit from Amazon One by expediting identification and payment processes, enabling seamless access to loyalty programs, age verification, and secure entry to sports and entertainment venues, office buildings, and more.

Amazon One has formed partnerships with major financial institutions like American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa, allowing cardholders to utilize Amazon One for speedy and convenient identification and payment.

One crucial advantage of the Amazon One palm signature is its unique and non-replicable nature. Unlike credit cards or passwords, it relies on both palm and underlying vein structure to create a distinctive numerical, vector representation, ensuring enhanced identity matching and security.

Amazon takes the protection of customer palm data seriously and stores it securely in the AWS Cloud. Leveraging more than 300 cloud security tools and a vast network of 100,000 security partners worldwide, Amazon One incorporates multiple security controls and tamper-detection capabilities, rendering the device unusable if tampered with.
