Canon has unveiled several new products, including the black EOS R8 and EOS R50 camera bodies, as well as a white version of the EOS R50. The release also includes the RF-S 55-210mm telephoto zoom lens, the ET-60B Lens Hood, and the RF 24-50mm wide-to-normal zoom lens for full-frame cameras. There are two kit options for the EOS R50, including one with an 18-45mm zoom lens in black or white and another with both the 18-45mm and 55-210mm zoom lenses. Finally, there is also an EOS R8 kit that comes with the RF 24-50mm zoom lens.
The Canon EOS R50 has been specifically designed for streamers and content creators looking to upgrade their equipment. The camera is both lightweight and compact, making it a convenient option for use as a web camera, live streaming video in full HD at 30 fps, and recording podcasts and vlogs for extended periods of time. The EOS R50 features a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC X Image Processor, enabling it to shoot 4K video at up to 30 fps and full HD video at up to 120 fps. The Movie for Close-Up Demos Mode ensures that objects presented close to the lens are in focus, making it ideal for unboxing videos or makeup tutorials. The Advanced A+ Assist makes auto mode easier to use in challenging lighting conditions, while the Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus II covers the entire sensor with 651 autofocus zones, providing fast and precise focus for people, animals, and vehicles. The Canon EOS R8 Camera is a full-frame upgrade option for those who are already part of the Canon mirrorless system. It boasts a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and is powered by the DIGIC X Image Processor, delivering exceptional image quality and a wide dynamic range for still photos. With Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus II and 1,053 autofocus zones, the camera offers advanced subject detection and tracking capabilities. The R8 can also be used as a webcam and for live streaming, with the ability to record 4K at 60 fps, oversampled from 6K, and full HD at up to 180 fps. With a recording time of up to two hours at 29.97 fps, it is perfect for podcasts, vlogs, or any other long-form video content. Additionally, the five-axis Movie Digital IS image stabilization reduces camera shake when using an RF lens with optical image stabilization.
The Canon EOS R8 and R50 cameras are designed to cater to the needs of streamers and content creators. They feature a Vertical Movie Mode that allows for vertical video playback on smartphones and an Aspect Markers function that indicates the aspect ratios of various social media platforms, making composition easier. The Canon RF 24-50mm lens is an ideal standard zoom option for full-frame cameras. It boasts a lightweight design and an f/4.5-6.3 maximum aperture, with optical image stabilization for stable shots. The lens offers an equivalent coverage of roughly 88-336mm on APS-C sensors and comprises of two ultra-low dispersion glass elements, one aspheric element, and Canon’s Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare. The stepping motor focus drive ensures smooth and quiet autofocus when shooting video. To enhance the lens’ protection and performance, the ET-60B Lens Hood can be attached to block sunlight, eliminate glare and lens flare, and protect it from damage caused by debris and abrasions.
