ROKA, a luxury ryokan ideal for art lovers is opening in the art-centric island of Naoshima, Japan in April 2022. Curated exquisitely and carefully, to enhance the art experience on-island by a fourth-generation hotelier, this intimate retreat will feature 11 suites, each with their own private rotenburo open air bath where you can soak in warm soothing waters and feel connected with nature. Guest rooms are designed with the idea of a harmonious feeling of living in a Japanese state of zen in the mind and body.

ROKA is designed to be more than a hotel, but rather a gallery, a space to connect with fellow art enthusiasts and a birthplace for new art, featuring pieces by contemporary rising stars as part of owner Shintaro Sasaki’s desire to “shine a light on young artists, and send fresh art out into the world.” The property also features a Japanese-style gallery lounge and an onsite eatery serving up fresh and locally sourced oysters, a diverse array of seafood along with an array of traditional specialities complemented by incredibly warm and personalized service.

For travelers attending the renowned Setouchi Triennale festival, ROKA is the ideal base from which to explore installations, inspiring artistic communities,  along with the famed Benesse House and Ando Museums designed by Tadao Ando. The festival launch coincides with the hotel opening in April 2022 and spans multiple islands across Setouchi with Naoshima leading the way.
