Here is the list of our annual round-up of the top hotel openings in Britain.

The Londoner – West End, London (September 2021) – Edwardian Hotels London’s first purpose-built hotel, The Londoner is being billed as “the world’s first super-boutique hotel”. The landmark development near Leicester Square embraces the drama and heritage of its West End setting while offering five-star facilities and a pioneering approach to sustainable luxury design. The ambiance is boutique yet the scale is staggering, with 16 stories, 350 guestrooms (including 35 suites and a tower penthouse each with cityscape views), six concept eateries, a state-of-the-art ballroom and a subterranean gym and spa. The two private screening rooms are an especially nice touch given the hotel’s theatrical neighborhood.

Pan Pacific – Spitalfields, London (September 2021) – Pan Pacific Hotels Group has made its first foray into Europe with the new landmark tower at One Bishopsgate Plaza, just across from Liverpool Street train station. The new Pan Pacific London hotel has 237 guestrooms and suites designed by Yabu Pushelberg and also features the Square Mile’s largest hotel ballroom, an 18-meter infinity pool with cityscape views, and an abundance of landscaped outdoor space. Spectacular views of The Gherkin from The Signature Suite on the hotel’s 18th floor are worth writing home about, too.

Mondrian Shoreditch – Shoreditch, London (August 2021) – Following a major renovation and restyling, the Mondrian London will open this summer with 120 rooms, a rooftop pool and wellness center, and the return of the Rumpus Room, a fixture of the London nightlife scene, opening as a rooftop lounge. Dining options will feature several signature food and drink brands, including a culinary experience from world famous chef Dani Garcia.

Mayfair Townhouse – London, England (May 2021) – The latest property from the Iconic Luxury Hotels group (who also runs Chewton Glen, The Lygon Arms, Cliveden), the Mayfair Townhouse is situated near London& Green Park. The hotel features 172 rooms & suites (including 2 Penthouse Suites and Garden Suites), a menu of signature cocktails at The Dandy Bar, a private gym and versatile event spaces. Paying stylish homage to the great Oscar Wilde, the Mayfair Townhouse offers delightfully unexpected design elements and atmosphere – whimsical, yet elegant.

The NoMad Hotel – Holborn, London (May 2021) – With its first presence outside the United States, NoMad has transformed this 19th century building into a 91-bedroom hotel with many of the original architectural features of the former Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station preserved and incorporated into the design. The hotel will open with the first ever NoMad Lounge as well as The Side Hustle, a restaurant offering refined pub fare.

Kingsland Locke, Dalston – London, England (Jan 2021) – Kingsland Locke’s fourth property is in the heart of Dalston – one of London’s most interesting, most-talked about areas. Interiors featuring contrasting textures and tones, rich and recycled materials and lush plants reflect the colors and scenes of the vibrant neighborhood. Each of the 124 apartments come with an equipped kitchen, sofa and living space, as well as access to communal laundry and a workout studio. Guests can mingle with locals in the hotel’s co-working area, coffee shop, restaurant, microbrewery and gin distillery, then head out to Dalston, Hackney and beyond to experience the city like a Londoner.

Nobu Hotel — London, England (Dec 2020) — This well-known and ultra-stylish brand opened its newest property the heart of Marylebone this winter. The new hotel has 249 guest rooms and suites, together with a Nobu restaurant, ballroom and meeting spaces, all in the brand’s signature minimal style. From palatial suites to cozy modern rooms, each bedroom is inspired by the elegant English garden within Portman Square and features an abundance of natural materials.

The Guardsman, Buckingham Gate – London, England (Oct 2020) – Just a short walk from Buckingham Palace, this 5-star luxury hotel in Westminster is self-proclaimed as a boutique hotel with the feel of a members club. The space has 53 luxurious rooms stocked with bespoke goods, a ‘dining room’ with an ever-changing menu, a curated art selection, a library and more. The property also offers six residences that offer a longer stay, with options of one, two or three bedrooms – all self-contained apartments with kitchen, dining area, work from home space and options such as a private chef, valet, and 24-hour room service.

DogHouse – Manchester (August 2021) – Scottish beer brewing giants BrewDog have announced that they will open their first hotel in England, following the success of the DogHouse brand in Scotland and the USA. The 25-bedroom hotel features Punk IPA on tap in every room, beer fridges in the showers, a rooftop terrace with fire pit, and will allow guests to bring their pets.

Bodmin Jail Hotel – Cornwall (May 2021) – Bodmin Jail is undergoing a £40m redevelopment and preservation project to become a brand new immersive visitor attraction (opened October 2020) alongside a four-star boutique hotel and restaurant scheduled to open in 2021. Holdings that date back to the 18th century are being used to create 70 spacious bedrooms with three cells to a room in the original civil, naval and women’s wings. An exciting new restaurant concept is also due to open within the hotel, giving guests the chance to indulge in a traditional afternoon tea or sample some hearty British classics.

Three Mile Beach – Cornwall (April 2021) –Three Mile Beach offers luxury beach hut style self-catering accommodation in the heart of Cornwall. Located in Gwithian, not far from the picturesque fishing town of St Ives, the 15 cozy two-to-four bed beach houses are a short distance from miles of golden sands and feature log burners, cedar hot tubs, barrel saunas and private decking areas – great for those looking to switch off and relax. In addition to open-plan kitchen facilities and a complimentary food hamper, a private chef service is available to guests, while the site is also visited by a street food van serving up an abundance of local flavors.

Hotel Indigo – Bath, England (Sept 2020) – This comfortable and contemporary boutique hotel features 166 rooms, set in a Grade I listed Georgian Terrace in the Bath City Centre. Reserve a table at the hotel’s restaurant, The Elder, to experience the best of what British cuisine can be: authentic, timeless, and sustainably sourced. The Elder Restaurant actively manages land where its wild produce is reared, overseeing the local sourcing of fish, meat and fresh produce in its commitment to sustainability, seasonality and providing an exceptional dining experience.

The Clock Tower at Bamburgh Castle (Oct 2020) – Guests can make the famous walls of Bamburgh Castle their home with a stay at The Clock Tower, an apartment built into the 13th century tower. Offering striking views over some of Northumberland’s most resplendent coastal landscape and exclusive access to the castle grounds, as well as the state rooms when the castle is open, the quirky three-bedroom accommodation features a delightful mix of antique furniture, stylish heritage décor and the latest modern appliances.

Buxton Crescent – Derbyshire, England (Oct 2020) – The Crescent, a Grade I-listed architectural masterpiece in Buxton, has reopened as a luxury five-star hotel and spa. Around £50m has been invested in the project, which includes an 80-bedroom hotel, the magnificent Assembly Rooms, and a thermal natural mineral water spa in the Natural Baths. Buxton has been a spa destination since Roman times, and in this historic setting Buxton Crescent offers five-star amenities including traditional hydrotherapy, luxury spa treatments, lifestyle programs and healthy cuisine.

The Tawney Hotel — Staffordshire (July 2021) — The Tawny Hotel sits on 70 acres in the beautiful Peak District, offering guests an unforgettable rural retreat where they can explore the estate and find idyllic lakeside gardens and other spots for a retreat into nature.  Spend a quiet night in luxury in one of the Huts, Treehouses, or waterfront Boathouses, or book one of the Lookout suites, positioned at the top of a hillside to offer unbeatable views of the grounds through wall-to-wall windows. The Plumicorn Restaurant, housed in the central building, offers a captivating menu using local ingredients, including a few additions from the onsite kitchen garden.

Abbey Strand Apartments at Holyrood Edinburgh, Scotland (July 2020) – Located in the royal heart of Edinburgh, these intriguingly unconventional serviced apartments can be rented anywhere from one night to six months.

Newhall Mains – Inverness (April 2021) – Offering five individually themed cottages and four double bedroom suites, this family-run estate on the Black Isle peninsula has been lovingly restored over three years. Room interiors feature bespoke furnishings, bold patterned wallpaper and rugs spun using wool from the estate’s resident flock of sheep.  As an added bonus, the private airfield on the estate allows guests to arrive in style, and scenic flights can be arranged with the local flight school. Located along the North Coast 500 driving route, Newhall Mains is an elegant and convenient stop for self-guided tourists exploring the Highlands.

Marine Hotel Troon — Troon, Ayrshire (May 2021) — Located along the breathtaking South Ayrshire coastline, this stunning 4-star hotel offers bespoke views over the Royal Troon Golf Club as well as across to the Isle of Arran. Built in 1894, the Marine Troon has been refurbished to reflect the Scottish heritage of the hotel and the surrounding region. Dylan Resort — Laugharne, Wales (2021) — This cliffside collection of luxury lodges offers breathtaking views of the Taf Estuary and sits perched above the waterfront house that legendary Welsh author Dylan Thomas called home. Guests will stay in one of 58 contemporary lodges and enjoy access to the facilities at Milk Wood House, including a bar, restaurant, hydrotherapy swimming pool and spa.

Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa — Salcombe, Devon (July 2021) — Close to South Sands beach in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this stylish waterfront luxury hotel welcomed guests with features including a beach bar, an outdoor terrace, a laid-back restaurant and a spa offering an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and five treatment rooms. Guests checking into the hotel’s 50 bedrooms will be welcomed with Harbour Hotels’ ‘Little Luxuries’ including complimentary gin and locally-sourced organic toiletries.

Graduate HotelsCambridge and Oxford (June 2021) Graduate Hotels are opened their first locations outside of the US and bring a taste of school-house chic to the university cities of Cambridge and Oxford. Inspired by the culture and creativity of Cambridge University and its world-renowned former alumni, the 148-room Graduate Cambridge will be nestled on the banks of the tranquil River Cam and will feature a stylish restaurant in addition to Poindexter, the hotel group’s cozy café and dining chain. The 151-room Graduate Oxford incorporate bold colors and textures inspired by Oxford’s rich history and artistry, and provide an ideal base from which to discover the City of Dreaming Spires.

The PIG at South Downs – West Sussex (September 2021) – As the seventh property from this luxury hotel group, The PIG is opened in South Downs in a lodge outside Madehurst Village. With its 20 acres, the group will continue to source the majority of its livestock and produce from its own farming efforts, with the rest coming from no further than another 25 miles. The land is also perfect for a vineyard, as South of England continues to receive praise and accolades for its growing wine region. The continuously warming climate make the soil very similar to that of France, and perfect for sparkling wine, among others.

Cameron House Hotel – Loch Lomond (August 2021) – The Cameron House Hotel has reopened this summer, having been lovingly restored following a fire in 2017. Located on the picturesque shores of Loch Lomond in West Dunbartonshire, with spectacular views over the loch, the hotel offers guests access to a range of spa and wellness facilities, as well as several golf courses. Executive chef Zoltan Szabo has been brought in to oversee the resort’s existing bars and restaurants, while a vast multi-million-pound extension will see the creation of a 350-person capacity ballroom alongside 68 new bedrooms, many with loch-facing balconies.
