At its launch in 1956, the Day-Date was a major innovation: it was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock on the dial – a technical feat at the time. The day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. Watches in the Day-Date range are made of precious metals – 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold or 950 platinum.
For year 2021, Rolex is presenting three gem-set, colorful versions of its Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36. Made from 18 ct yellow gold, 18 ct white gold and 18 ct Everose gold, these new watches are swathed in diamonds and fitted with a polished leather strap.
The new versions of the Day-Date 36 are fitted on a polished alligator leather strap whose 18 ct gold folding Crown clasp is set with 61 brilliant-cut diamonds. The strap, which is coral on the 18 ct yellow gold model, turquoise on the 18 ct white gold version and burgundy on the third watch in 18 ct Everose gold, matches the color of the enamel index hour markers and Roman numerals VI and IX on each of the watches’ diamond-paved dials.
The Oyster case of these new timepieces is entirely set with 254 brilliant-cut diamonds on the lugs, lug caps and case sides. The bezel is also adorned with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds. The dial, paved with 450 diamonds, is host to index hour markers and Roman numerals VI and IX in enamel. Oyster case of the Day-Date 36 is 36 mm in diameter. Its middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold. The crystal is made of sapphire and is fitted with a Cyclops lens over the date with double anti-reflective coating.
Rolex uses Calibre 3255 for the new versions of the Day-Date 36. This movement was manufactured and released in 2015 by the company. Similar to other Rolex’s movement, Calibre 3255 is fitted with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring. The power reserve of calibre 3255 extends to approximately 70 hours.
